WTF Moment

On the homepage of SF Gate, the San Francisco Chronicle's Online edition, two stories ran as features:

Paris Hilton's return to jail and the discovery of a five year old Oakland boy, found dead in his home from an apparent gunshot wound.

This is the travesty of our media, and the shameful results of media consolidation.

I'm sorry, but who the fuck cares about Paris Hilton's 45-day jail sentence? What would compel an editor to run it on the front page of a daily newspaper in a fairly high traffic media market? It ain't just about ratings. Our mass media has become more about entertainment than about anything substantial, a way to dumb down the masses during a crucial historical moment of war, domestic displacement and and an all-out attack on our civil liberties by the totaliarian regime we call our government. Forget covering the hard fought victories being won EVERYDAY by working people of color against all the odds.

The ONLY thing this whole Paris Hilton media blitz it useful for is for providing a glaring example of why our criminal justice system is a joke.
